Republic Day is a national public holiday in India. On this day, all government and private offices, schools, colleges, banks, and businesses remain closed. On January 26, 2026, India will celebrate its 7tth Republic Day.
Background
After a long struggle for independence India became independent from British rule on 15 August 1947. The Indian National Congress (INC) led by Mahatma Gandhi played a major role in this freedom movement.
On 29 August 1947, a committee of seven members, led by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was formed to draft India's Constitution. They submitted the draft on 4 November 1948, and after discussions, the Constituent Assembly adopted it on 26 November 1949.
The Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950, with which India became a republic country. Dr. Rajendra Prasad wiki became the first President, and the Constituent Assembly was turned into India's first Parliament.

Republic Day is a day of Indian national pride and remembrance, honouring the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Parade: A grand Parade showcase is shown on Republic Day in New Delhi. This parade displays India’s military strength, including marching contingents, tanks, missiles, fighter jets, and special forces from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The parade is presided over by the President of India, and a special Chief Guest from a foreign country is invited each year. Prabowo Subianto, president of Indonesia, was the Chief Guest of the 76th Republic Day of India.
